A new challenge: explosion box! Not too bad to be my first one ever!

I recently joined an amazing FB group on scrap-booking and other craft-related hobbies. People are very nice and laid-back, tips are useful and, above all, I have the feeling that people are really enjoying what they do and they're are not out there to judge you!

 I've been admiring a lot of beautiful creations including explosion boxes (never heard about them before!) which I totally fell in love with.

 Yesterday was pretty hot and sticky here (and no A/C) and I needed some sort of distraction to spend the day (no chance to go out with that temperature after 10 AM)...

 I decided to make my first explosion box without any expectation... but at the end, after hours of work, I managed to give life to this cute little thing 

 I have referred to this tutorial (simple and clear) but scaled down the dimension (hummm, I had paper constraints...  :-D )


 I have cut and assembled everything (cake included) by hand, with the exception of the hearts (Sizzix big shot + scribble heart die) and the embossing of the white paper (again Sizzix big shot and vine embossing folder I just bought  from crafts-spain).



The clear stamp used to make these mini cards is part of a Christmas set from DovecraftTM. I've stamped with black VersaCraft ink and heat embossed with transparent embossing powder. Polka dots, ribbons and bows have been coloured with Stabilo stabilo point 88 mini pens.


I enjoyed too much making this explosion box!!! Next one?!? Very soon!!!

One more way to combine soy wax and gel!

The followings are all two-layered candles with the bottom layer made of gel and the upper part made of soy wax . Why combining the two of them? Because gel is transparent and allows you to embed objects   and soy wax   has an incredible  scent   throw and a long burning time ! Few simple rules for embedding objects: ideally they should be non flammable (like glass animals, shells or stones)! ...but if you do not exaggerate with the amount, you also can potentially use cinnamon sticks, dried flowers etc... To be on the safe side: if you use flammable objects I'd anyway suggest you to pour the thinnest layer of gel as possible (just to cover the embeds) and avoid burning this layer. And remember: never ever leave lit candles unattended! Let yourself be inspired and give it a try! Gel embeddings: glitters (blue candle) or sea shells (peach candle).
